Kay has graduated in 2011 at the Australian Maritime College and the University of Applied Sciences Bremen in Germany with a Bachelor degree in Shipping & Chartering. He has been since working in operations department of Pacific Basin in United Kingdom, United States, China and New Zealand before moving with Pacific Basin in 2014 to Vancouver. Kay is currently working as a chartering Manager.
Since 2012, Kay has been actively involved in London and Vancouver at the ICS Branch Committees with focus on supporting students and young professionals to connect within the maritime industry.

Title: Dry Cargo Chartering
General Manager of CTL Westrans Shipbrokers, part of the Cunningham Group and presently Director and past President of the VMAA (Vancouver Maritime Arbitrators Association). For over 36 years he’s been involved chartering primarily dry cargo vessels, of various types and sizes. Based in Vancouver, he’s has lived and worked in both Bergen, Norway and Hong Kong. In Bergen, he worked both exclusive and competitive tonnage as well as 3 months in the Offshore department. He followed that up with year in Hong Kong, assisting in forming a dry cargo chartering department, in a mainly Contracting and Sale & Purchase shipbroking house. As an aside to those duties, in that year he succeeded in selling over 18 ships for demolition to Chinese buyers. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, North American Branch and a Member – Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. Daryl continues to participate with the Vancouver Chamber of Shipping and is a regular presenter of the Business of Shipping program in various Canadian cities. When not attending to regular duties he enjoys playing ice hockey and ‘recreational’ golf.

Title: Project Manager
Dena began her career with Teekay Shipping in 2002 as a summer intern. She has held various positions throughout the Teekay organization, all with a focus on planning and strategic projects. In 2017, Dena has recently taken on a role of Project Manager with Western Canada Marine Response Corporation. She holds a BBA and most recently successfully completed her PMP certification.
Dena has three children and in her free time in involved in the school Parent Advisory Council and volunteers with the Girl Guides of Canada.

East Coast Canada – Julian Hung
Independent Shipping Consultant
Julian began his career as a management trainee and advanced to a chartering manager at IMC Shipping, a major dry bulk shipping company based in Singapore. Most recently, Julian was Head of Research at Pinguino Events, a shipping industry conference and workshop company he helped set up, and was a regular guest lecturer in shipping economics and management at Singapore Maritime Academy and Nanyang Technological University. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved with many shipping organisations including the ICS Singapore Branch and was one of the main organisers of the ICS Singapore conference in 2010.
Julian holds a BA from McGill University and an MA from Carleton University, both in economics. He recently completed his Certificate in Marine Transportation issued jointly by the Shipping Federation of Canada and Concordia.
Julian is currently an independent consultant with interests in both commercial and academic aspects of shipping. He is based in Montreal to which he recently returned after many years in Singapore. He is married with two children and enjoys spending any free time he has with his family.

Karl started his career in shipping back in 2007 in Shanghai, China, working for a Chinese operator called Crownland International.
Over the last 8 years, he has worked in different sectors of Dry Bulk Shipping including Capesize/Pamanax/Handymax/Handysize.
Immigrated to Canada in 2011, Karl joined Pacific Basin Vancouver office and has been working in both operation and chartering side of the business.
Currently, he spends most of his time on the inbound trade from Far East to west coast North America with dry bulk and general cargo.
Besides his passion for shipping, he enjoys photography and playing basketball/soccer in spare time.

Director – Peter Swanson

Peter is a founding partner of the Bernard LLP with over 30 years of professional legal experience. He practices primarily in the fields of maritime and health law.
Peter’s maritime case work involves vessel arrest and security, carriage of goods by sea, enforcement of maritime liens, civil and regulatory liability for ship source pollution, collision, port state intervention, immigration, bodily injury, chartering disputes, and constitutional issues arising in the context of “navigation and shipping”. Peter also routinely advises on the preparation and completion of transport and terminal contract documentation and is often involved in casualty investigations in both a marine and non-marine context.

Andriy graduated Odessa National Maritime Academy (Ukraine) in 1993 with a Master of Science Degree in Marine Navigation and Engineering and worked as a deck officer on deep sea ships. After moving to Vancouver in 20014 Andriy was working for the Orient Overseas Container Line (Canada), Vancouver Fraser Port Authorities, Pacific Basin Shipping Company and BC Ferries.
Andriy likes traveling, outdoor activities. Married, growing a charming daughter.

Title: Association Coordinator, Events and Communications
Alisha holds a BA in English literature and Political Science from the University of British Columbia, as well as a Broadcasting and Online Journalism degree from BCIT. She also studied Politics and English at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
In addition to her role at the Chamber of Shipping, Alisha is a Video Journalist at Match Strike Films and also works as a writer and digital media specialist.
