Courses & Tutorship
At the core of the Institute’s programme of education is a syllabus which covers 16 key subject areas across the industry, each of which is assessed annually by examination. The subjects are placed in groups:
Group 1 – Compulsory
Legal Principles in Shipping Business
Economics of Sea Transport & International Trade
Shipping Business (compulsory in the first year)
Group 1 subjects form the compulsory components of the Institute’s qualifications, as they cover the essential aspects of the maritime industry.
Group 2 – Optional
Logistics & Multi-modal Transport
Course books for all subjects can be purchased through ICS Head Office using book order form .
The Institute’s examinations and qualification are designed to be broadly comparable with degree-level standard, to give you an idea of the depth of study and quality of work required.
If you are from a company where several people are studying for the examinations, it may be possible to provide extra support on a group basis. For information on this please e-mail enquiries@ics.org.uk.
