ICS luncheon talk in Montreal – Oct 7th 2015

An ICS luncheon talk was held in Montreal on October 7th 2015 on the topic of “Strikes, Congestion & Bills of Lading Remedies”. We were very honoured to have as our speaker, Peter Pamel, Partner at Borden Ladner Gervais, who gave an wonderfully clear, careful and insightful treatment of the subject.

Among matters covered were the optionality nature of strike clauses, distinctions between strike clauses and the concepts of frustration and deviation, the question of what triggers strike clauses and the importance of different clause wording and the evolving interpretation of those wordings. Practical examples and relevant cases were given throughout. The excellent presentation was supported by a full house of attendees from across the industry who listened very attentively, asked many questions and contributed themselves to the discussion.

Between learning more about the topic, catching up with others in the industry and a healthy lunch, we hope that everyone found it to be a nice way to spend their lunch hour!

Our next ICS luncheon talk in Montreal will be Wednesday, October 28th 2015, 12:00 to 2:00 pm. The topic will be “The Impact of Recent International Developments on the Quebec Maritime Industry” and our speaker will be Prof. Claude Comtois, Dept of Geography, University of Montreal and will take place at the Shipping Federation of Canada boardroom, 300 St Sacrement Street, Suite 326 in Old Montreal.
