“Fish & Ships” repeats as YOS-ICS shipping pub quiz champs

The turnout was even stronger than last year with about 60 people attending, making up a total of 12 teams. “Fish & Ships” returned to defend their title against upstarts “Gale Force”, “Coast to Coast” and the “WISTA Sea Stars”. Companies represented included major shipoperators Fednav International Limited, Canada Steamship Lines and Rio Tinto Marine, shipbrokers Gibsons, weather routing company True North Marine, maritime lawyers Brisset Bishop and the Port of Montreal. While most attending were industry professionals, a large number of students and interns joined as well!

There were 4 rounds of 9 questions each. Questions covered a wide variety of shipping topics including chartering, operations, law, insurance, economics, finance, organisations, history and personalities. To mix things up, each round of questions also had a non-shipping question on a general subject such as sports, entertainment and current events. Judging from the energy in the room – intense and heated discussions, cheers and groans when the answers were read out, smiles and laughter everywhere –  everyone had a great time!

In the end, “Fish & Ships” prevailed once again to take home their second trophy! Will this be the start of a dynasty? Only time will tell…
