ICS held Lunch talk on streamlining commercial shipping process
ICS Canada held a lunch talk in Montreal on October 18th 2017. The topic was “Streamlining Commercial Shipping Processes” and we were pleased to have as speaker Praveet Thekkat of Marcura Inc.
In his presentation, Praveet made an interesting case for bulk shipping companies to outsource their administrative tasks such as charterparty checking, laytime calculating and port disbursements to a specialist company. Main arguments involved increased specialisation, greater leverage for discounts, reduced risk and improved transparency through shared technology and information. On the topic of “big data”, the speaker emphasized the importance of focusing on the “relevant data” and the willingness of parties to share information.
